Course Overview

The DOT Hazmat Course covers the requirements for shipping and receiving hazardous quantities of radioactive materials, both by air and general freight. The course covers the new definition of radioactive materials that are considered hazardous for transportation, types of packages, proper shipping names, labeling, the completion of shipping manifests, and emergency response.

The course presumes the students have already had basic training in radiation safety, units of measurements, biological effects, and radiation measurements. If the student is rusty in any of these areas, a free review course is also provided as part of the DOT course. The handouts, which include a comprehensive review of the DOT rules, should be perused prior to starting the course.
